Nearly every object can now be connected to the Internet — from smart gardening to sophisticated Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems of intelligent/smart vehicles, even organic farming, waste management, pest control, crops, and cows. Connecting several things and capturing useful data transforms organizations in every industry and opens gateways for new career specializations. In that way, IoT’s foundation lies in the convergence of different technologies working collectively to solve real-world problems or enable new products and services. The main objective of this course is to provide the learners an insight into the fundamentals of IoT and understanding IoT from an embedded point of view. Compare nanotechnology and industry 4.0, understand IoT architecture, characteristics, and applications of IoT with the real-time case studies. This course gives the base to outline the technologies that have supported IoT Growth.

What is the objective of this course?
The Internet of Things is changing our physical world into a complex and dynamic system of connected devices on an unusual scale. Advances in technology are making possible more widespread adoption of IoT, from micro-cameras to smart sensors that can assess crop conditions on a farm to the smart home devices that are becoming increasingly popular. The Internet of Things is everywhere. It is used in a range of applications and has both corporate and consumer uses. This short course is designed to give an overview of the Internet of Things. This course provides a detailed understanding of a new dimension of connectivity in the Internet of Things, THING architecture, the evolution of IoT, nanotechnology, industry 4.0, applications of IoT, benefits of IoT, technologies that have supported IoT growth, standardization, and challenges of IoT, etc.

What Will You Learn?

  • This course eases this confusion by providing a jumpstart, an overview of the basics of all four layers of the Internet of Things starting from sensor-connected IoT devices or “Things” to IoT gateway.
  • You will be introduced to useful connectivity terminologies and the network configuration of the IoT, essential building blocks of the IoT, which includes sensors and actuators.
  • You will be introduced to integrated applications, M2M and IoT
  • You will learn the basic features of Rasberry Pi and Arduino
  • You will be analyzing the real-time case studies of present technologies
  • To discuss the fundamental concepts of the Internet of Things, and connectivity terminologies
  • To analyze the functional blocks of IoT and THING architecture
  • To compare nanotechnology and industry 4.0
  • To understand the evolution of connectivity and analyze the connected things
  • To differentiate industrial IoT and consumer IoT
  • To outline the technologies that have supported IoT growth

You will receive a token number (via e-mail for direct purchase on the platform or through your college/institutions IEEE-BLP program coordinator). E-Learning access: Three months from the time you enter a valid token number on the platform or until you complete the course session, whichever comes later. The entire program (e-Learning course, Labs (if applicable), end-of-course assessment, and exam) must be completed within 6 months of purchase.

After purchasing the course you must activate it before using it. Your learner dashboard shows all the courses you are enrolled for. If you have enrolled for more than two courses, sign-in with your credentials and click on the arrow symbol to browse through all your courses.

The e-Learning part of the IEEE Blended Learning Program is specifically designed to be an interactive online course accessed through a web-browser interface. You would need access to a computer with appropriate configuration, an Internet connection, and appropriately configured audio. System requirements are provided in the program details page.

If you were in the middle of the assessment section, you will be asked to begin assessment again. Only the first, fully completed assessment results will be stored in the system for future retrieval.

When you resume e-Learning, you will have an option to begin from where you last left off. However, you will have to sign-in and re-launch the specific e-Learning course.

Please make sure that the audio on your computer is configured properly, has Internet connectivity, and other system requirements are met. If you are still facing an issue after checking your computers audio configuration, please send e-mail to support-blp@ieee.org.

You can control the audio playback in several ways. First, you can pause and resume the audio playback using audio controls available on the screen. You can also play audio from specific places within the page. Each page also includes a transcript of the audio to allow you to follow the audio more easily.
